  • In the tunnel furnace direct reduction method, the reduction takes place in furnaces with a length of 206 meters and a width of 3.4 meters. The first 34.4 meters of the furnace serve as the preheating zone, followed by a 135-meter reduction zone operating at a temperature of 1120°C. After this, the production line continues with a 36.6-meter cooling zone. The raw materials pass through the furnace in silicon crucibles, completing the reduction process over approximately 70 hours. At the end of the process, the remaining ash, coal, and lime are separated, and the resulting sponge iron is crushed. After removing impurities using special presses, the sponge iron is converted into briquettes. The advantage of this method compared to other sponge iron production methods lies in its flexibility regarding the type of input material. Besides high-grade concentrate, lower-grade materials such as sludge, mill scale, fine pelletized ore, and others can also be used.
